What's New

13 November - Due to family problems have not had time to update but in a five minute gap I am adding Lamb Stuffed Lamb Breasts and an Orange Cake

17 October - Hope you all had a good yomtov - this is a quick one for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah also very good for Pesach Home Made Chocolate Truffles .  Picture to be added post yom tov as hope to make some on Sunday.  Also a nice one to do with the kids.

28 September - For Myrna - Gluten Free Kreplach or Ravioli Dough The picture shows a chicken filling left over from Shabbat as I made them this morning to check my recipe for the dough and did not have any mince or cooked red meat to fill them with but use a little imagination and filling of your choice ie chopped cooked meat mixed with fried onion and seasoning for kreplach or cheese and spinach for ravioli.

25 September - This is probably my last posting before Rosh Hashannah so may I will you all a happy healthy and peaceful New Year.  I am baking honey cakes at present which I posted in 2006 but have added some crystallised ginger and a few coconut flakes - they smell good.  However today I am suggesting  Chicken Maroque featuring honey for a sweet year

19 September - Almost at Rosh Hashanna and I am going with a traditional sephardi idea - fish with its head on for the head of the year or if you can’t bear the head ask your fishmonger to remove it.  The recipe is for Tilapia baked with Peppers but you could use Salmon or Trout or any fish of your choice.
3 September - starting to think about the High Holydays - and thinking of baking and freezing ahead then why not try my Pear & Ginger Pudding - which you can either eat as a cake  (cold) or a pudding - hot with custard or cream
25 August  - first off Mazeltov to Doron Luder & Dina Jackson our nephew and his bride who get married this week.  This recipe might appeal to them even though neither is celiac - a good breakfast or snack Buttermilk Pancakes - I use tapioca but you can use any good g/f flour mix
12 August  at the request of one of my colleagues this is quick tear and share bread also good for pizza bases - I prefer it with additions than plain Socca -  Neapolitan Flat Bread

1 August - June has been a flurry of hospitals as unfortunately the other half has been very poorly let’s hope August is better - so here is one of his favourites deserts: Zuccotto (Italian Mould) and an easy moist cake  that I start making at this time of year when I have my first courgette glut and my early apples It has an  interesting in colour.  You can serve it with whipped cream and a little apple snow on the side as a desert but I am happy to eat it as it is often  at breakfast.

23 June - Sorry its been so long but my other half has been very poorly and we have been doing a lot of visits to hospitals.  Fish is getting expensive but how about trying something new you will have tasted Grey Mullet in the Med and its readily available in the UK and really quite reasonable.
18 May - I know its over a month but things happen in life sometimes to complicate it.  Anyway - I am back with a nice summery salad Broad Bean & Mint Salad for an easy lunch or as an accompaniment, my other all in one dish which you could have with the salad is Vegetable & Quinoa Crust Bake
14 April I have created a Pesach page which links to all the recipes you can use for Pesach if you are Ashkenazi and do not use kiniot.  Some with minor adaptions  I think I noted all the adapt ions apologies if I have not please tweak as you wish - I always do when people give me recipes.  Have a kosher Pesach - sorry no new recipes unfortunately my husband is sitting shiva at present so life is.....
04 April We have had problems with the website host and have not been able to upload apologies.  My upload this week is a cake that I recently enjoyed at our Rabbi’s home, his wife Ruth was given the recipe by a friend.   Pesach Marmalade Cake during the year add the baking powder it does help lighten the cake.
23 March  - I have started thinking of Pesach -I actually cleared and cleaned a cupboard today in case I see anything wonderful in the shops.  But I try to keep things simple.  For those of you who can eat oats  here’s a link www.glutenfreeoatmatzos.com.  My recipe this week is Carrot Pate or Dip though you can use Sweet Potato, Roast Squash or even Potato and Celeriac or a combination what’s more it can be made in advance (though I would suggest not more than 2 days)
13 March - Purim approaches so try my Haman’s Hats (hamantashen) or the savoury Purim Picnic Roll - this is also good for packed lunches and you could use different fillings as suggested.
2 March   Almost a month without a computer - but I am now back and running up to Purim.  So a cake Lemon Reverse Cake
8 February- A winter warmer that I have even used for a supper party buffet - doubling and tripling the amounts.  Hope you like my Citrus Cottage Pie with Golden Mash
22 January  - I have not loaded a bread recipe for a while so to warm you up - have an Indian meal with some home made Chapatis these would go well with the Keralan Chicken or the Cochin Cholent or the Whole Spiced Sea Bass  or are nice with honey for breakfast
6 January 2008 - Hope this is a good year for you all - today we have which is a Russian desert with lots of different fruits and really easy the way I do it and Given as its coming up to the New Year for trees and I always associate almonds with this holiday  Pashka (flower pot pudding)
19 December - Its a long time since we had a cake so its my  Sticky Chocolate Orange Cake - I usually dust with icing sugar but when I took the picture it never got to the “snow” stage,  my nephew could not wait to start it – he’s 4 next week.
7 December - Another Chanukah recipe, good as a snack or accompaniment Spicy Corn Fries

18 November Chanukah is approaching and here comes the frying pan with oil for cooking.  These Aubergine/Eggplant Fritters can be either part of a vegetarian meal, a starter or a snack.  A twist on the sliced aubergine schnitzel
